" The Power of Color "

Workshop

WORKSHOP FEE:  $ 375.00 - WORKSHOP DEPOSIT:  $ 100.00

Balance or payment in FULL to be made at least 45 days prior to workshop.

No element in painting is more expressive than color. Bright
or dull, light or dark, warm or cool, color can be used to carry
a multitude of emotional moods and feelings. You don’t have
to rely on the colors you see; this class is designed to help
you learn to use color in a creative, subjective way that will
enable you to produce exciting, personal statements.

On the first day we will start with a powerpoint lecture and
demonstration on the creative use of color followed by a critique
of the participants recent work (up to 5 original matted
paintings or digital images of paintings on flash drive or
disk from each participant)
. The next two painting days will
be spent exploring a variety of color concepts that will help
each painter expand their expressive color vocabulary. Both
days will conclude with a critique of the students application
of that day’s exercise and of their paintings. No painting on
Friday.

Christopher Schink is a nationally renowned artist, author,
and teacher who has taught in almost every State in the
U.S. as well as in Europe, Canada, and Mexico. He is the
Chief Editor of the popular magazine The Palette Magazine
and the author of several watercolor instruction books. His
award-winning paintings have appeared in numerous
regional, national shows, and museum shows and he has
served as juror for many national and international exhibitions.
He has almost 50 years of teaching experience.
You’ll enjoy his warmth, his knowledge, and his humor.

Workshop Location: ART BOX Studio,
1302 Monte Vista, #9,Upland CA, 91786.

Mike Bailey

"Composition for Impact"
Watercolor Workshop

WORKSHOP FEE:  $375.00 - WORKSHOP DEPOSIT:  $ 100.00

Balance or payment in FULL to be made at least 45 days prior to workshop.

Stop merely copying what is in front of you. Learn to create
compositions that increase the power of your subject to
arrest the viewer.

By composing abstract patterns of structure, visual cues are
created to gain maximum attention from a viewer. Patterns
of composition, such as, “hook”, radial”, “cruciform” and
others will be used in a series of exercises to acquaint students
with the patterns. Division of space, shape, direction,
value and texture will be stressed. Instructional material
showing these patterns will be provided. Projects and exercises
will keep the pace lively and interesting.

Mike Bailey developed a course for the University of
California at Santa Cruz Extension entitled “Watercolor
Beyond the Obvious”
and has expanded that venue to art
societies in the San Francisco Bay Area over the last ten
years. Focusing on helping others learn the aspects of
design and painting skills, his magnetic and vigorous teaching
style makes him a highly sought after instructor, speaker
and workshop leader there.

Workshop location: ART BOX Studio,
1302 Monte Vista, #9, Upland CA, 91786.
A materials list will be sent upon registration.

Don Andrews

"Color Emphasis In Landscape"

WORKSHOP FEE:  $ 535.00 - WORKSHOP DEPOSIT:  $ 100.00

Balance or payment in FULL to be made at least 45 days prior to workshop.

“Regardless of the landscape, we watercolorists choose to
explore, or our personal approach to painting, I believe we
all have in common the search for a more vital color statement.
Color offers us a wonderful opportunity to express
our uniquely individual feelings about a chosen subject.
This workshop isn’t directed toward a particular level of
achievement, rather artists at all levels will benefit from a
more intimate understanding of color and it’s possibilities
in the exciting world of landscape painting...

As I grow as an artist, I also grow in my deep appreciation
for the beauty evident in the landscape around me.
Exploring the color possibilities that abound in nature is a
challenge that seems eternally fresh and exciting.
Expressing my color feelings in this new direction is a welcome
addition to my continuing growth as an artist.”

Don’s classes are geared toward intermediate or advanced
painters who are looking for a challenge. Don’s book
Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor will be available
at our workshop & he will have a book signing session!

Workshop location: ART BOX Studio,
1302 Monte Vista, #9, Upland CA, 91786.
A materials list and map will be sent upon registration.

2014 "Anyone Can Draw" Attendee's Comments . . .

Sylvia,

Thank you so much; I will never look at ANYTHING again without seeing negative space, shapes etc. I learned so much. I came home and this morning I had to try drawing my cat Tasha, I’m very proud of how this first attempt turned out.

I had my doubts about “Anyone Can Draw” and me *lol* but you made a believer out of me. Thanks!!
